South Indian star Ileana D’Cruz is cool about comparisons with Kareena Kapoor. The actor will reprise Bebo’s role in Nanban, the Tamil remake of Rajkumar Hirani’s Bollywood blockbuster 3 Idiots.
“I know that comparisons will be made with 3 Idiots. In fact, it’s a
natural process but I’m neither worried nor thinking about it. I know 3 Idiots has been a blockbuster, so I’m putting in my best,” she says.
Ileana is enthused about working with filmmaker Shankar, who most recently helmed the Rajnikanth blockbuster Robot (2010). “Nanban’s shoot is going very well. It’s always an honour to work with Shankar. I have never seen him so relaxed on the sets,” she says.
These days, what’s got her in good spirits is her Hindi film debut with Anurag Basu’s Barfee, also starring Ranbir Kapoor and Priyanka Chopra. She accepts that the Bollywood setting is completely different from south Indian films. “I am a bit nervous, but still hoping for the best. Working in Hindi films is always a big leap for any actor in India as it helps you make your mark on a bigger stage. With Bollywood, the kind of global exposure one gets is unparalleled. So, of course, it’s a bigger deal,” she says.
But Ileana doesn’t want to put too much stress on herself. “At the same time, a film is a film for me. Only the language is different,” she says.
Nonetheless, the star has paid a lot of attention to her launch pad in Bollywood. “I have been very particular about my debut Hindi film. In fact, I have had several meetings with Anurag about the script and film before agreeing to work in it,” she says.
Besides 3 Idiots’ remake, Ileana is also shooting for Nenu Naa Rakshashi with Dum Maaro Dum star Rana Daggubati. “I have really been too busy with no time to sit and relax,” she laughs.
