Mr. Perfectionist Mani Ratnam is leaving no stone unturned to make his upcoming magnum opus Ponniyin Selvan, a timeless masterpiece.
The movie is a screen adaptation of the Tamil historical novel Ponniyin Selvan, written by Kalki Krishnamurthy. Having decided on the cast — Vijay, Mahesh Babu and Arya as male leads and Anushka in the female lead, the filmmaker has chosen Mysore as the location where most of the period flick will be shot.
The buzz is that Anushka is playing Vijay’s love interest (for the second time after Vettaikkaran) and Mahesh Babu’s sister. Another top actress will star in the film and talks are currently on with her.
Sathyaraj, the latest addition to the ensemble cast, portrays a Buddhist monk. Director Vasanth will be Mani’s main associate in this project which is commencing in October 2011.
Meanwhile, since the epic script demands hundreds of horses, sources say Mani has asked Kamal Haasan for suggestions. Reportedly, Kamal has advised the filmmaker to import the horses from France, which was what Kamal did for his period flick Maruthanayagam, Ulaga Nayagan’s dream project.
It is learnt that Kamal has even recommended that Mani contact certain places and people in France to get the kind of horses he is looking for. The actor also gave Mani the names of two of his best men who worked on the script of Maruthanayagam, to assist Mani with his project.
