This August, Kollywood fans can look forward to a battle between the films of two of the top stars, Vijay and Ajith. CT gets you the big story...

Tamil cinema is gearing up for a Vijay versus Ajith battle as their films, Velayudham and Mankatha, are getting ready for an August release. The talkie portions of both films are almost over. What remains is some patchwork and a song or two which will be picturised overseas.

Director M Raja, who is busy with Velayudham, says, “We have almost completed the entire talkie portion of the film and have to shoot two songs. The post-production work will take a month. We are looking at a mid-August release.” The producer of Mankatha, Dhayanidhi Alagiri had recently, through a tweet, confirmed that his film would be released in August.

Says Annamalai, a leading distributor, “It is almost certain that Vijay’s Velayudham will clash with Ajith’s Mankatha in August. Both the films will be ready by July but since it is the beginning of ‘Aadi Masam’, traditionally big films will not release. As of now, the best date is August 12, when you have a three-day Independence Day weekend, at one point considered the most popular date for the release of Tamil biggies.”

‘Nanban’ And Chennai Nights

Vijay has still got couple of weeks to complete the shooting of his upcoming film ‘Velayudham’. The climax stunt sequence is currently being shot in the backdrops of gigantic sets of Binny Mills. He will soon join the sets of Shankar’s ‘Nanban’ after wrapping up with ‘Velayudham’.

Right now, Shankar is carrying out the shooting schedule with Jeeva, Srikanth, Ileana and other junior artists. Vijay is trying to manage between ‘Nanban’ and ‘Velayudham’ since they vary with the times during day and night.

Soon after completing the schedule in Chennai, Shankar is planning to shoot the location to Spain for canning some songs.

Vijay's 'Velayudham’ Villain Is Excited

He just needed a film to showcase his potentials and today, he becomes the most favorite character artiste in all regional movies. Abhimanyu Singh arrested our senses with his atrociously shaded character in Ram Gopal Varma’s ‘Rakta Charithram’. One could feel the realistic flavor of a typical baddie exerted by his performance. The actor has now become the favorite of filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma as he has signed him for couple of more movies.

His upcoming Hindi film will feature him in a positive role while the Telugu movie ‘Bezawada Rowdylu’ delineates him as a notorious thug, who kills his own brother for the sake of gaining power.

The actor is very much excited about his debut in Kollywood through the film ‘Velayudham’. The actor says that he has been an ardent buff of Tamil films for it boasts of different genres. Abhimanyu Singh performs villain role opposite Vijay and has a meaty role to strike with.

Vijay fans celebrate in a novel way

Ilayathalapathy Vijay's birthday is on June 22. This year Vijay has requested his fans not to celebrate his birthday in a lavish manner.

He wants them to celebrate his birthday by doing social and charitable work.

Ileana, fourth idiot in Nanban

Sensuous and lissome lass beauty Ileana is currently busy with the shooting of her Kollywood film Nanban directed by Shankar.

On talking to a leading newspaper the actress said “I was very nervous on the first day of the shoot but as the days passed on I felt very comfortable with the entire unit. It is a complete new experience for me as I am not used to the working style of Kollywood and major drawback for me is the language. Director Shankar has made some changes to my role and it’s not a line-by-line remake. I have completed handed over my character and look to Shankar sir.  Even my look in the film has been designed carefully”.

On talking about her co stars Ileana says “Vijay is very calm and cool on the sets.  All three of them are very good friends. And I joining them have turned as the fourth idiot! Vijay, Jeeva and Srikanth are very cooperative and when I talk to them in Tamil they have not laughed or made fun on me. This made me more comfortable to work with the team. I was also approached for the Telugu version also but at present the producers are concentrating only on the Tamil remake”.

Vijay working on back to back schedules

ilayathalapathy Vijay is busy working on non stop schedules for two of his upcoming films. The actor still has to complete the shoot of Velayudham which will take another couple of weeks.

Velayudham is currently on the heels of completion as the climax stunt sequence is currently being shot in the gigantic sets erected at Kollywood’s favourite shooting spot Binny Mills. Vijay is going to join Nanban soon after wrapping up Velayudham. In spite of his tight schedules Vijay is making his best efforts to take part in Nanban’s shoot as the time zones vary between day and night.

Meanwhile Shankar is canning other parts of the film with Jeeva, Srikanth, Ileana and other junior artists in Chennai.

It is just because of Vijay’s dedication and commitment many directors want to work with him. Kudos to Vijay!

Vijay’s producer receives death threat

Romesh Babu, the producer of the Vijay starrer Kavalan, has complained to the police that producer Shakthi Chidambaram threatened to kill him if he did not give a written statement that he is willing to forego 2.75 crores which a private television channel owes him. Romesh Babu said that he had sold the satellite rights of Kavalan to a private television channel for 5.5 crores of which he had received 2.75 crores. The channel refused to pay the balance for the past four months despite repeated requests.
Now, producer Shakthi Chidambaram has intervened in this issue and has threatened Romesh Babu with dire consequences if he does not forego the remaining amount. A complaint has been registered against Shakthi Chidambaram on this issue.

Velayudham buy Someone Please

Even big producers like Aascar Ravichandran face these types of crisis while making big hero films. For a director like Jayam Raja, Velayudham should have been completed far earlier than now.
The delay is due to Vijay’s eagerness to act in Shankar’s Nanban for which he gave top priority. Meanwhile, Velayudham’s shooting was going on but Vijay skipped Velayudham’s shooting to act in Nanban.
This has led the budget to shoot up which has led to a delay in completing and releasing the film. Aascar Ravichandran can’t take it anymore and so had decided to sell his film to some big production house and move on.
Aascar Ravichandran did not also want any kind of political participation but both Vijay and SAC have been trying to rope in the Chief Minister to the audio launch. However, she refused to attend the function.
Aascar Ravichandran also wants to release Leelai which will also eat up some cost to release the film. Velayudham is expected very soon to be purchased by some big production house.

Ileana heaps laurels on Vijay

Nanban, the remake of Hindi hit Three Idiots, directed by Shankar is fast shaping up. Vijay plays the role enacted by Aamir Khan, while Jiiva and Srikanth and Jiiva are also in the cast. Ileana dons the character enacted by Kareena Kapoor.

Says Ileana, who is busy shooting for the movie, 'Vijay is always silent and at the same time he is a great colleague. He is very helpful and understands others troubles.

Describing Srikanth and Jiiva as her best friends on the sets, Ileana says,
‘The two are very naughty. We keep on cracking jokes on the sets of Nanban with Vijay and Shankar joining us often. On the whole, we are having a blast while shooting for the film.’
